HD - Nvidia / conf.ini and Nvidia Control Panel for HD and now!
« on: September 11, 2012, 03:52:30 PM »
Config.ini example of wide screen settings:

[window]
width=1920
height=1080
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0

******************************

***Make sure you have the latest Nvidia driver. http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

First of all to see all file extensions you need to enable it. If you do not you will only
see "Config" not Config.ini"

Here is how to change File Types:

Click "Start" button at lower left of your Taskbar.
Then, "Control Panel".
Then, "Folder Options".
Then, Click "View" tab.
Then, Under "Advanced settings" scroll to see "Hide extensions for known file types" and UNCHECK it.
Then, hit "Apply" in the lower right corner of that screen.
Your done.

Below is config.ini [Render_OpenGL] section of the config.ini you need to change. AGAIN, THIS IS
ONLY FOR NVIDIA CARDS!! ATI cards will be posted on another thread.

Copy and paste your old config.ini somewhere or write down changes you are making to both NVidia Control panel and config.ini just in case you need to look at what your settings were before.

Nvidia ONLY!!!!!!!!!!

These are the best results I found in the Nvidia Control Panel for IL-2.This is for Nvidia cards only!

If you have a lower performance CPU or video card then lower "Anisotropic Filtering = ?X"
and/or "Antialiasing-Setting = ?X" until it is playable for you. Or try turning Vertical sync = OFF
and Triple Buffering = OFF.

*Open Nvidia Control Panel.
*Look for "3D Settings" tab. Click "Adjust image settings with preview"
*Choose "Use my preferences emphasizing: (Quality) <<<Choose "Quailty"
*Then, go down one tab under "3D Settings" again and click "Manage 3D Settings"
*In the right pane at the top of the pane you should "Program Settings" choose that tab.
*In (1. Select a program to customize) choose "IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles + Aces Expansion Pack"
*Change all choices to what I have below. If you don't see all of these choices don't worry, just change
what you can see.

**********

Ambient Occlusion = N/A
Anisotropic Filtering =16 x<<<<<<<<(try 8x or lower if your frame rates drop to low)
Antialiasing - FXAA = Off
Antialiasing - Gamma Correction = On
Antialiasing - Mode = Override any application
Antialiasing-Setting = 16x CSAA. <<<<<<<<(try 8x or lower if your frame rates drop to low)
Antialiasing-Transparency = Off    <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<(causes frame studder)
CUDS - GPUs = Use global setting (All)
Maximum pre-rendered frames = Use 3D Application settings
Multi-display/mixed GPU acceleration = Single display performance mode
Power management mode = Prefer Maximum Performance
Texture filtering - Anisotropic sample optimization = Off
Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias = Clamp
Texture filtering - Quality = High quality
Texture filtering - Trilinear optimization = Off
Threaded optimization = Auto
Triple Buffering = On          <<<(Lower end cards or CPU's can try turning this off if you have stutters. Try ON first)
Texture filtering - Anisotropic filter optimization = Off
Vertical sync = On             <<<(Lower end cards or CPU's can try turning this off if you have stutters. Try on first)

Your config plays ok for me will all the settings above. I did make one change. I noticed a bump in the video quaility when looking down flying. It went away setting the Maximum Pre-rendered Frames to "Use the 3D Application Setting" (made changes in first post)

Do you have a MODS folder in this install? If so and stuff is in it make it -MODS. Any kindof mod you have in it whether it is a sound mod or anything is going to overwrite any game or JSGME enabled.

Here is my config post below, see how it plays. Just change Res to 1920x??

Thanks Cobraj. I did everything like you said except Triple Buffering and vsync. I have no problem with VSCNC off. TB is the problem. It was noted that triple buffering could cause trackir to hang up. So I prefer not to use triple buffering. Other than runs nice and I got the best graphic IL2 can put out.
