Training....
« on: December 12, 2021, 03:38:38 PM »
Just completed the training modules up to the STOL at the airfield.  The Harrier seems a lot more hands on the stick than the F18.....

Are you just using the training missions under the Harrier or are there downloadable ones?  Inquiring minds want to know!

It is very definitely more of a hands on a/c than the Hornet. I recommend mapping a button on your throttle to the AFC and Altitude Hold buttons or at least creating a VA command for them.

So far just the Av8B training.  Also thanks Razor - wasn’t sure what auto pilot controls it has

As soon as I get some rudder pedals here shortly, I plan on spending some time in that module.

Proper LHD landing technique takes a little practice for sure. :icon_pirat:

LOL!! I'd say a little more than "...a little practice for sure."

Of all the things I have tried to do with modern jets in DCS World, the most difficult so far, starting from the hardest is;
1. Tanking in the Harrier
2. Landing on the LHA - at night
3. Landing on the LHA - in the daytime
4. Tanking in the Mirage 2000
5. Tanking in the Tomcat
6. Trapping in the Hornet
7. Trapping in the Tomcat

Flying on Razor’s wing cause he’s so Fn accurate……

Jk - actually that helps.  Tanking practice coming’ up!  F14 next?  Or P51?  I think I saw that on the list of our planes

Oh yeah! I forgot about tanking in the Hornet. That would be about 6. between tanking in the Tomcat and trapping in the Hornet.  :tongue3:

Just practiced the VSTOL takeoff, hover, land......no boom but a pretty loud kabang!  Need some more practice there before a carrier landing will be successful.  The short landing is a whole lot easier than the vertical landing.....

How does it go on the carrier?  Is it vertical landing or a short landing with a bit of forward motion?

Vertical landings are the only landings authorized on the LHA.  In reality, you'll survive a bit of rollout but the the skipper might chew into ya a bit.   :Rofl

Most freeest advice I can give on LHA approaches and landings = "do NOT even attempt it over 20,000 lbs."
