Hey thanks Thud! For some reason I didn't see those.

I finished setting mine up last night. Right now I'm using 17 of the 20 commands the free version allows you. I didn't have any trouble getting commands entered or keys bound. It's very straight forward once you know what it expects. Right now the free version gives me enough key binds to do what I need but when I learn a bit more about it's capabilities I will buy the paid version and put it to better use. Now I just push my VoiceAttack push to talk button and say for example "Comms 1, F10, F1, F3" , and I'm good to go.

PS, for the commands needing a number ( Keys 1-10 or F Keys) I didn't use the actual number, I spelled out the word version of the number in the command line, example didn't use 8..spelled Eight. I don't know if that's required but that's how I did it and it worked first time. Also, the F keys do double duty even though you only have to program them once . If you program them they work in both comms mode and in regular mode, so I can access all my different views by saying the F key command but when I say Comms 1 or Comms 2 it then uses them in the comms menu, so that's pretty sweet too.

THIS +1!!! I did not spell out the numbers and VA understood me perfectly!  Something as simple as taking a look at myself from the outside, "F2" and then back inside, "F1" is so simple now! I am loving this!!

I agree.  I downloaded the free version of Vaicom pro, the add on to voice attack, and it works well on the comms menu.  I think its only single player for the free version but is suppose to work on all planes and in multiplayer in paid.  All you have to do is hit the comm key for the correct freq, speak the wording like Mosdak.. Hog 11 request taxi... and the AI responded back to you like you pressed those buttons on the comms menu.  Pretty cool.  Would be great for JTAC.

I used the free version on our last squad night and it worked beautifully   I believe that the only limitation is the number of commands available to the free user - 21. I baught the full version and I can't see myself ever doing without it again!

Glad you guys are liking VA. I use it for just about every game I play, including RoF, DCS, FSX, etc.

The nice thing about the paid version is that you can have as many "profiles" (ie. command sets) as you want *and* you can even nest them....

So, for instance, in my case, VA starts up when Windows does, and it loads a Default Profile automatically...  In there, I keep generic Windows stuff like (Press F1... Start TrackIR, Start Teamspeak, Shutdown PC, Press Enter, Load Profile "prof-name", etc.)

Then my game profile inherits from the generic one, so for instance, I don't have make new commands for function keys in my DCS Profile, as they're already inherited from the Default Profile. With that in mind, my DCS profile is for generic DCS commands (show the scoreboard, default assignments like flaps and landing gear, default views, etc). Then for each aircraft I have a profile for that (ie. Load Aircraft Hornet or Viggen, or whichever plane you're flying). That profile has the specific stuff for that particular aircraft which is real handy for organizing, and changing stuff for a particular plane. One nice thing about that approach is: Say, the Hornet uses a different key assignment for "Gear Down" - the plane specific command will override the generic one (since that profile was loaded later than the default one), so I can use the exact same command and it works as expected.

Finally, and this is another feature I love, you can Use VA to do other VA commands in a profile... Here's a fun Hornet example I use.  I have commands for extending / retracting speedbrakes, catapult launch bar, refueling probe, etc.  So, if I want to make a "4 Down Check" command that extends the cat bar, fueling probe, speedbrakes and tail hook, that command just has to refer to the already made commands for each of those operations, without having to actually re-define all the individual keypresses.  Just say "4 Down Check", and it does the whole shebang. Say "4 Down Complete" and it goes ahead and retracts them all again.  Handy...

Like the tagline for the computer language Perl, I find that  VA  lets you do simple stuff very easily (like simple keypress combinations), but it also makes some pretty complicated stuff possible as well....

It's without a doubt the best $10 I ever spent on computer software, bar none.

Once again, I'm glad you guys are starting to experiment with VA...  Pretty soon, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it -- I find it as indispensable now as trackIR (or equiv).

Cheers,
4 ~S!~

Love the ideas man!  So is there a way to share profiles or basic profiles to custom edit or anything.  So far I've only messed around with it in Elite Dangerous = simple commands to get use to its functions.  It would be cool to have those separate profiles to mesh into so if somehow I end up making something that is totally awesome I could share that out.  Still n00b on it's full functions.

You can import and export profiles by using the + button. It will give you the options.  (see pic)

Definitely worth every penny to get the full version.  I'm really enjoying approaching sling loads in the UH-1.

Initially I did have some problems with it recognizing some of my voice commands but I went through the Speech Recognition exercises (Control Panel, Ease of Access, and then Speech Recognition) and I haven't had any problems since.  Thanks for the tip on the command sets/Nested Commands.  I'm going try it out by consolidating all the various commands with CTLD for troop pickup and drop off.

I bought the paid version of VA and am trying to set a few things up. In my controls page for DCS F-18, the keyboard column for "Wing Fold Control Handle-Pull" and "Wing Fold Control Handle-Fold" and "Flap Switch-Auto" and "Flap Switch-Full" are all empty. Does anyone know what the default keyboard binding is for these actions? What I am wanting to do is create voice commands where I just say  "clean up" when I take off, "dirty up" when I'm preparing to land and "on the deck" when I land  on the deck and all the correct actions take place and need these controls to do this.

You can create your own key command in DCS and then assign it in VA

Hi Sparky,

Regarding the F18, most of the key bindings are empty by default. As Thud mentioned you have to make your own... Over time, I've done that for nearly all the systems, including the MFD buttons, basic systems (flaps, gear, speedbrake, etc.), weapons, and pretty much everything else. Once you've defined those keybindings (I noted mine in a little notebook, since there's probably more than 100 (the 3 MFDs have 20 buttons, each, for instance), *definitely* save them in a file also. At that point, you can set up VA commands to make use of all those bindings.

For me, now, the only time I touch the keyboard for the F18 is during taxi  (S key - NWS/HI, and W - Wheel Brakes), or zooming the view in and out. There is a small handful of stuff I still click with the mouse (mostly radio freqs), but everything else is done by voice.
