Your take on monitors
« on: January 14, 2016, 10:55:32 AM »
I'm interested in your take on monitors. My 24 inch HP monitor is not bad but it's a little old. It appears the HD monitors are the way to go..  UHD would be even better but they're too pricey.

What's your preference?  Also, what size monitor would you think is just right.

I've got a 27" Acer monitor that I've had for a couple years. I guess bigger is better, but I'm satisfied with this one. Resolution is 1920x1080.

I use a samsung 40 inch LCD HDTV with high contrast and high refresh rate.  It was advertised to have a game mode.  It is probably 5 years old and it was the previous years model so I got it for around $400.  I use it in 1920x1080.  I am very happy with it.  When you compare the cost of larger monitors to a TV you might find the TV gives you more bang for your buck.  See pdf for specs.  I am sure these are no longer in production, but the specs might give you some ideas of what you might look for if interested in considering this route.

intersting about the TV monitor. I have tried some of the older ones but never got good results from them. Going to keep this in mind.

Tv monitors seem to be a bit pricey. My budget for now is $200. For those with HD monitors, what should be the most important considerations for gaming?

Was thinking of this one .......

Biggest problem I have found with inexpensive monitors is usually small viewing angle.  If your angle to the monitor is not just right, then the brightness and contrast look terrible.
