yeah, I saw that a couple months back.  Really enjoyed watching it.  I just found a book, that I'll do a review of in the books section titled "ACE: A Marine Night-Fighter Pilot in World War II" by Colonel R. Bruce Porter.  The introduction is by Pappy, talking about how they both knew each other mid 43 and were good friends.  Pappy originally wanted Porter in his VMF-214 group when he was creating it.

"Like Bruce, most of us were trained as Naval Aviation Cadets, nearly all of us flew Corsair fighters, and most of us faced first combat in the Solomon Islands.  That alone makes Bruce's story worth telling.  His story is OUR story."

it's an excellent read, and like I said, I'll post a review of it in the "books" section.  But seeing on the back page that Pappy wrote the intro, and having read it, and seeing the publication date as being in the 1970s, I knew I found a gem at my local used book store.
