Actually Ajax, he was technically a member of Air Group 5, which was comprised of the Fighter squadrons VF-51, VF-52, VF-53, VF-54 and VF-55. VF-51 and 52 operated the F-9F2 Panther and VF-53 and 54 flew the F-4U4 and 4B Corsair and VF-55 flew the AD-2 Skyraider. Neil was a pilot in VF-51. The very first attack on Korea by the Navy was carried out by Air Group 5 off the Valley Forge. After that first cruise with the "Happy Valley", the air Group was parted out to composite air groups and I don't think that they ever went aboard a carrier again as a whole, intregral air group. I'd love to know what the whole story was behind that.
