Dot range of ships
« on: August 20, 2012, 05:15:39 PM »
Guys I am having an issue and I am wondering if it has something to to with my config file. I cannot see ship dots. I see vehicles and planes as dots but no ships. Basicaly I do not see the ship until i am close enough for it to render as a ship. Not dots. This happens on both my laptop and my gamer. Have tried different resolutions to no avail. Anyone have any idea? Could it maybe be the water setting? It makes it very difficult to find the fleet.

In conf.ini, is VisibilityDistance=3 and Landgeom=3? They were. It is most likely then due to your high res setting. I will be putting a mod together soon that will increase sight again.

Does nVidia control panel show other lower res settings? Try going lower and if you can see them then that is the issue.

This is how I modded the RCU file to increase distance in the last round of mods I put together;

You can increase automatically the dot's visibility at max distance allowed by the game (25Km) in this way:

a) open your RCU file with notepad and add this line @file icons.rcu

b) create another file in the same format of the rcu one and name it icons.rcu

c) open it with notepad and add these lines:

mp_dotrange FOE DOT 25.000 COLOR 4.0 RANGE 4.0 TYPE 2.0 ID 1.0 NAME 0.1
mp_dotrange FRIENDLY DOT 25.000 COLOR 4.0 RANGE 4.0 TYPE 2.0 ID 1.0 NAME 0.1

timeout 60000 file icons.rcu

d) save (not using save as..) and put it in your IL2 root folder.

Now when you're ingame the icons.rcu file refresh from the start every 60" the dot distance to 25KM with obvious benefit in terms of better visibility!
You'll see if it's working going to console (ALT+TAB).

I haven't changed anything in the Conf file. I have tried resolutions down to 1024 for by 768 using my single large monitor and no luck. Does it on my laptop too. Starting to get irritating. I will double check the settings when I get home. I will try the RCU thing too but arent dot distances set by the server?

Distances are set by user unless the .mis has them specified which none of our missions do.

Exactly which console are you talking about?
