I've been trying to get Voice Attack to work. Works great with X-Plane but I cannot get it to recognize all my commands. It's very sporadic. I may need to say a command 10 times, even then it may not work.
I have:
Retrained Windows speech recognition 3 times.
Changed mics, going from the Oculus rift mic to a desktop mic,
Made tons of adjustments in VA and Windows.
without success. Any suggestions?

What kind of commands are we talking about, complex ATC/Tanker talk, or general cockpit stuff?
-
Cockpit. Like HOOK DOWN, Hook Up, gear down / up, clean up, dirty up. Each voice command has a set of keyboard commands etc
-
umm....I use those same commands with little to no issue. My best guess is to train train train the speech software. Make sure in the EDIT section you have them set as FULL COMMANDS
-
Can you tell me where your SOUND FILE VOLUM and TTS volume is set to in VA? I do have all of them set to FULL COMMAND
-
MAX 100%

I may have found the issue. SKYPE was running in the background. I will fly now and test it.
-
let me know. If you have Discord you can add me on it Triv #7266. I almost always have it open even if I don't have TS open.
-
I entered it on Discord and it cant find you. Im on TS

Teaching yourself how to articulate your words is helpfull too.

I have a deep Texas accent. Hard for ANY Yankee to understand me. LOL

One of my friends has a pronounced Missouri accent and uses Voice Attack. He needed to train the software several times before it started to get reliable.
Some tips I've found helpful:
1> To Thud's point, enunciation is very important -- try to emulate newscasters with that flatter Midwestern sound if you can (or keep training the software til it understands your accent).
2> Speak evenly and clearly, and in the same tone. Esp. in combat situations, getting excited (or too loud) can spoof VA into not understanding
3> Use a PTT for VA. Think what you want to say, then, PTT and say only that... VA actually can pick up extraneous noise(s) well enough to mess up a command
4> Use full words for commands over abbreviations. For Example: "ILS button" may, or may not work well for you (it did not for me), but "Landing System button" works very well.
5>One of my biggest troubles is remembering the exact commands. I've found that following a "standard" tends to help, as does allowing more optional words. For instance, I tend to create my commands in a specific pattern when possible --> System, Action, Parameters. Easy Example: "Battery On". That's about as simple as it gets, but in actual practice, I also tended to say "Battery Switch On" or "Turn Battery Switch On" -- which, of course, wouldn't work... The fix? Allow optional words. So, my Battery command actually looks like this:
[Turn; Toggle;] Battery [Switch;] [On; Off]
In this case, *any* of the above commands will work as expected -- the only required parts are Battery and On or Off. The one caveat to that approach is that it can make your command file quite a bit larger in memory usage as it stores each possible command permutation. If your system is on the edge of being marginal, this could present problems. For me though, I've found that the flexibility far outweighs that risk. YMMV.
Hope that helps!
Cheers,

Great info. I actually experimented with different words that VA understood better than others. I think I need to retrain Windows again. I'll keep you posted. Thanks a bunch

Might also try recording from your mic and playing back to make sure you are not having distortion from too much gain on the mic...or static noise...etc
-
Yes Animal, each time I recorded a new word in the Windows Speech dictionary, I played it back and made sure it sounded OK. I am experimenting around now by changing words that consistently do not work. Like the word COMS to change radios or the work HOOK that it cannot understand. It also cannot understand WING. Really weird!

I’ve started watching what VA thinks I said in my London accent, then putting that into “When I say xxx” I say what I mean, VA thinks it knows what I said and does the thing I want done. YMMV
I’m glad I can’t see the looks my girlfriend is giving me trying to train it with my HMD on.

Wife told me I didn't know how to count last night. I was using VA and calling up Jester Commands...
