Folks, I'd like your opinion on a plan I am hatching for the arrival of 2.5.
I am severely limited in storage space on my SSD with only 35 GB left available out of 256. I currently have 2.2 installed on the SSD, which takes up over 82 GB, and 1.5 is on my 1 TB HDD, which has a footprint of 42 GB. My plan is to delete 2.2 from my SSD and 1.5 from my HDD. Then I am going to reinstall 1.5 onto my SDD with all of the modules I own, and then install 2.2 onto the SSD with only the NTTR and Normandy maps installed. As I understand it, when 2.5 comes down the pike, it will come as an update to 1.5 and will take files from 2.2 as it is installing itself. Once that is done, I will delete 2.2. Does anyone see a problem with this plan??
Note: I have already removed all unnecessary programs from the SSD to include everything from the downloads, documents and pictures. I don't see where I can trim any more fat off the hard drive.
-
That is pretty much my plan too without all of the moving. I have 2.2 and 1.5 installed. When 2.5 comes out I plan to upgrade 1.5 and then delete 2.2. Alternatively just for sake of a fresh install I may just delete 1.5 altogether and go with the 2.5 complete install (if that is available) and then delete 2.2 once everything is copied over. Your plan looks viable to me :icon_rabbit:
-
When 2.5 comes out, I'm thinking of just removing all the version of DCS and then starting over with 2.5 from a clean slate. Probably doing a system defragment when DCS has been removed too. I'll only be keeping the input folders from either 1.5 or 2.2 though.
-
If you have your game files on an SSD like I do, don't run defrag.
-
This is what they specifically said (because I couldn't remember!)
DCS World 2.5 will be released as a new download (NOT an update to an existing version).
Modules under DCS World 1.5 and 2.2 will not need to be re-downloaded or activated. Just do not uninstall DCS World 1.5 and DCS World 2.2 Open Alpha prior to installing DCS World 2.5 Stable, as 2.5 will copy the modules over from 1.5 and 2.2. This should greatly reduce the amount of time to update to DCS World 2.5.
Any files in your Users/Saved Games folder will not be affected.
-
So 2.5 will be a brand new download, after which you can uninstall 1.5 and 2.2, is that right? :undecided:
-
I can't find it but I thought I read somewhere that it will auto dump 1.5...could be wrong.
-
I have dumped 2.2 from my SSD and am in the process of reinstalling it onto my HDD. This will give me the room I need to put 2.5 onto my SSD. It will be interesting to see if the load times have improved any after the reinstallation.

Wags did a live stream in 2.5 Caucasus maps yesterday:

That is definitely an improvement of the map!

This came out this morning: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3364435&postcount=1
Gentlemen, here is some explanations how your current 1.5 (and/or 2.2) will be converted to 2.5, please take a look the attached diagram. Transition will be made in 2 stages:
1 stage: Beta-version. 1.5.8 Open Beta will be updated to 2.5.0 Open Beta. Updater will check 2.2.0 (Alpha) and add necessary modules to 2.5.0. Then Open Alpha 2.2.0 will be uninstalled (user will be prompted about 2.2.0 removing).
1.5.8 release remains as is on this stage.
Some time (maybe one-two weeks, we hope no more) for wide test of this procedure.
2 stage: Release version. 1.5.8 release updated to 2.5.0. User will be prompted before update about saving 1.5.8 Final version in the separate directory.
Modules from 2.2.0 Open Alpha (or 2.5.0 beta - see 1st stage) version will be used for 2.5.0 installation, after that old 2.2.0 will be uninstalled (user prompted).
Open Alpha 2.2.0: this branch is no more supported. If user have only 2.2.0 Open Alpha, we will suggest to download 2.5 installer - it will install 2.5 release and remove 2.2.0 Open Alpha.
Home folders (Saved Games\DCS) remains the same (Saved Games\DCS and Saved Games\DCS.openbeta). New Saved Games\DCS.release_1_5 will be created for 1.5 Final version and all content will be copied into it from Saved Games\DCS. We also strongly suggest to remove Saved Games\DCS\Config\options.lua and make graphic tuning from scratch using DCS GUI because of 1.5 and 2.5 renders are significantly different.

WTF did he just say?
I need more beer
What's the BLUF. Is 1.5 automatically going to roll over and pull the modules or is 2.2 going to do and we kill off 1,5
-
Some time (maybe one-two weeks, we hope no more) for wide test of this procedure.
Oh Oh. here we go again!! "Two weeks"!!! :Rofl
Sounds as if the promise of it coming out before the end of January is out the window.
-
My interpretation is he's saying that people on 1.5.8 Openbeta (which is us) will be updated to 2.5 (maybe very soon?), and hopefully within a week or two after that if no problems with the 2.5 Openbeta, the 1.5.8 release version will be updated to 2.5.8.
It's kinda confusing the way it's worded, so who knows...
-
That is not why I am drunk tonight. I got drunk because I am confused. I was thinking, which is a thing a man should not do, and all at once I couldn't remember

Cool! How big was the download if you've already got 1.5.8 installed?
-
If my math is correct 19,792 mb = 19.3 GB
-
about the same on my end
-
56.6 GB for me (because I only had the Harrier installed on 1.5beta)
-
Mine shows 13598.6 MBytes in the installer window...not sure if that's 100% correct or not.
-
Scratch file for me was 69.3GB's... Once files transferred new files to download were 19.7GB's. I am currently at 22%. Download is fairly steady from about 1-5 MB/s.

My Road-gamer is updated. It took 21 hours.

Found this bit of info:
"If you updated your DCS from 1.5.8 OpenBeta to 2.5 while retaining the /Saved Games folder and your GFXs appear messed up, please consider deleting /Saved Games/DCS.xxx/fxo/, but before, make sure you have a copy to use as backup later if needed"
I wonder if it's harmful to just do it anyway, just in case?
-
What is GFX's????
-
Graphics I think :tongue3:
-
Sorry, yes it's graphics.

All seems to be working. I hopped into an online server and few the old Huey around a bit.
