Hey Hoss,
If I use a clean version of the game, 4.12.2 I believe, do I just unpack this mod into the root directory of IL-2 1946 like we would do for installing HSFX?? Is it that simple?
-
Give me a week and I will have a new install for you................... Compressed Full Monty..................... it's huge and only takes 7 minutes to install the whole thing because it's all sfs files.............. it has everything in in it.... even the F/A-18 for IL2.... Harrier, and angle decked carriers.................. so be patient, I'll package up a download and it will be available for everyone, we can get on TS and I'll talk everyone through it. You need to download ModAct 5.3 because it goes in before the CFM. Once you have it we can test it and see how it operates as a multiplayer platform.
ModAct 5.3
http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,37662.0.html
This is what I got from Simon (Monty) on Sunday, at the least download the manual and read it and see what's all in it.
Hi Mike
Here are the links - 10 Packs + 1 Update that goes in last.
Lets play with this for a week and release it next weekend if all goes well. We should use the next week to let a few selected people, who know what they are doing, look at it first and test the install method.
The manual is worth looking at, especially the last few pages.
There is more to do, but this system makes it easy and it really does install in 10 Minutes!
FINAL CHECKLIST
Il2/1946 patched to 4:12:2m and UP.SFS files (above) already in Il2 Root Directory
SAS MODACT 5.3 Installed (just the basics, options not necessary, they are provided by CFM)
This is the CFM I'm using right now, it's still being fine tuned for release real soon, there is also other up.sfs files (see below) that go in the root folder that I will package up and make available for download
INSTALLING CFM IN FOUR EASY STEPS
Inside Il2/1946 Root Directory
1) Minus out (rename) #SAS to -#SAS
2) Minus out (rename) jsgmemods to -jsgmemods
3) Check your SFS_AUTO folder and remove any SFS files beginning with 'THROUGH JSGME'. This completes the JSGME Cleanup for new and conversion installs.
4) UnZIP/UnRAR CFM01.RAR through CFM10.RAR and CFM-SAS-UPDATE.RAR to your Il2/1946 Root Directory. Install in sequence and overwrite when asked.
New #SAS and JSGMEMODS folders will be created and are ready to play!

Screaming Eagles is definitely next! (VF-51 Panther campaign we have been working on forever)
Once it's installed and working there a a bunch of extra jsgme options you can enable, the Hi-Rez skins is required to see the Yak-36, Harriers, and Hornets, plus A-4 skyhawks, A7 Corsair II's, Phantoms...... oh and F9F- Cougars, FJ3 Fury's... Angle decked carriers....
Hoss
-
cool!
Looking forward to it...I have a clean 4.12.2 install ready to go, and have the modact 5.3 downloaded
-
the Hornets and AV-8B have quasi working HUD's..............
-
the Hornets and AV-8B have quasi working HUD's..............
Can you translate that into "Minioneese"
-
Very cool! Standing by with a clean install of 4.12.2 and a fresh download of Modact 5.3. Take your time, no hurry.
-
I love you brother Hoss. Good luck on this. If guys want to install this with a fresh copy of 4.12.2 that's fine. It will not incorporate with HSFX, it is not that easy. We had inherent problems with the last compiled version because of overwriting and incompatible files with previous HSFX files. These issues will still be there plus others related to overwrites in new mods incorporated into it.
Backup your backups if you are going to play around with this. The squad as a whole will not be using it unless it is tried and tested. I suggest a separate install and we keep Version 2 like we have now.
-
I have no interest in HSFX where this is concerned. I just wanted to have the Jet War installed for my personal offline use. If others have it as well, I would be happy to generate some missions on it. One question though, does this have all of the stock planes flyable in it that are in 4.12.2? If the Late model Corsairs could be included that would be a huge bonus for Korea!
-
Those links I sent you have the manual as the first download. It tells you everything that's in it...... And it's a behemoth, far bigger than you can imagine. It's ten times bigger than my biggest mod...... Maybe twenty.............
Hoss
-
HOLY CRAP!!! :tongue9: I think I'm gobsmaked!! So, are we still waiting for you Hoss or do we start downloading all that stuff up above?
-
I'm still uploading the SFS01 - SFS08 files.....(about 5.08GB)....... you can down load the CFM files if you want, it's not the final version but it will do for your purposes though....................
The time it takes you to download one of the big files is less time that it takes to install the whole thing....................
Hoss
-
Holy crud Batman!
-
Thanks Hoss!
-
Once I put up the SFS files up on Mediafire, you can tell me when you guys want to get together so I can talk you through the set up, it's real easy, but you need to do it in order.
Once you unpack everything and get it ready it will take prolly 10 to 15 minutes to install the whole thing. Doing it un-compacted would take you at least a day if not a couple of days to do it via jsgme with the old TFM (the full Monty)
Hoss
-
Standing by. Just to be clear, are you expecting us to be standing by with a clean install of 4.12.2, or should we have installed something already?
-
Keep it clean, so if there's more than one person everybody is singin from the same sheet of music...................

OK, I'm all set. I've got all the CFM files, all the SFS files and the MODact file sitting in one folder next to a clean 4.12.2. What now?
-
I'm still fighting with Media-fag...
on edit: The last CFM files are downloading now, but I really feel the need to rant about the shitty things that media fire does. First of all, it's called media FIRE because it's fucking flaming gay! I'm sick to death of the Kaptcha! shit, particularly when they mis-spell words, or ghetto-ize the usage, there is a difference in there, their, and they're. Secondly, I now have mental scars that will forever ban me from doing business with H&R Block, or Progressive insurance, which has now achieved an even MORE prominent location on the "boycott for life" list. Not only am I forced to watch a shitty commercial before typing in some sort of grammatically incorrect mix of ghetto slang and grunts, but now "flaming media" decides it needs to "repair my download" and I am again subjected to that no talent cow Progressive hired from the blowjob booth at the last Occupy Wall street/dirty hippie re-union. (special musical guest: Roseanna Barr!)
It's only 6 AM, and I need a drink...

Flo is my Hero!!!
Why bang on her...
whoops, wrong grammer...
-
I know your pain Ted. All I downloaded was the manual yesterday and just spent a half hour getting rid of the pop-up crap that got slipped into my computer. I think I'll give this a pass until I cool off.
-
OK, I think I'm ready....
-
Hmmmm I experienced non of that......................... it was all click and download, no pop-ups, no drama...................... however I used to have that problem until I reinstalled windows 7............ now it's painless................. If you are having those problems I would recommend you do the same................
This is why I am very reluctant to put anything up on this website because of the incessant bitching and whining...................
If you would like to try it on your own unpack the SFS01-08 files into the root folder, you should have these files in the root folder once you are done

Then install ModAct 5.3 into the root folder, once done you will need to find the il2.selector icon (not the il2.exe) in the root folder and make sure it's set to Mod Act (it should be by default)save settings. Then make sure it loads and works and the screen says 4.12.2 Mod Act 5.3.........
Then follow the instructions in the CFM manual and install the CFM rar's into the root folder..........................
BACKUP SYSTEM FOR #SAS FOLDER - CFM-SAS-UPDATE.RAR
Package CFM-SAS-UPDATE.RAR is your main BACKUP SYSTEM. Installed Last; CFM-SAS-UPDATE.RAR contains the ONLY files and folders that are altered with MODS - Whether by you individually or by the CFM Team. Restoring the entire #SAS folder exactly as it is here in CFM-SAS-UPDATE.RAR will always restore your CFM to the latest stage. - For example - When a new set, like CFM11.RAR is released, then CFM-SAS-UPDATE.RAR will also be updated and should always be re-installed last.
COMPRESSED FULL MONTY-CFM
CFM-01.RAR to CFM-10.RAR
This initial install will ONLY function with all 10 CFM Downloads UnZip/UnRAR'd into your Il2/1946 Root Directory.
FINAL CHECKLIST

CLEARANCE READ-BACK
01-Do you have the above basic requirements for a 412 modded install?
02-Is it all running normally?
When you can answer affirmative, you are ready for CFM.
INSTALLING CFM IN FOUR EASY STEPS
Inside Il2/1946 Root Directory
1) Minus out (rename) #SAS to -#SAS (right click the mouse and "rename" put the dash - in front of the #SAS)
2) Minus out (rename) jsgmemods to -jsgmemods (Same drill, make sure you enable the Hi-Rez skins in the new jsgme folder if you want to see the Harrier and Hornets, Yak-36)
3) Check SFS_AUTO folder and remove any SFS files beginning with 'THROUGH JSGME'. This completes the JSGME Cleanup for conversion installs. (You don't need to worry about this because you have not modded anything, leave SAS_AUTO alone)
4) UnZip/UnRAR CFM01.RAR through CFM10.RAR to Il2/1946 Root Directory. Install in sequence and overwrite when asked. Put in CFM-SAS-UPDATE.RAR last.
New #SAS and JSGMEMODS folders will be created and are ready to play!
SAFETY FIRST
No core files from Il2 are over-written and nothing in the structure is changed so this is prefectly safe and at anytime you may revert to your previous #SAS if you wish (you won't want to)!
Easy Peasy.......................... click il2.exe icon on your desktop and off you go...............................
Once this is up and working you can install HSFX 7.0.2 over the top of this and use the IL2.selector to turn off Mod Act and enable HSFX............. by using the Classic Mod Option. Read the SAS Mod Act Documentation folder in your Root Folder to learn all th options to the IL2.Selector gui, you can enable cache file saving and Expert mode memory usage.
Cheers

Yeah but.....will my BOMB bay doors work???? ;)
Thanks Hoss. I'll report back once all these steps have been followed. But just to be perfectly clear, do we unzip the CFM files into the root directory twice? Or are those instructions repeated?

After unpacking the 8 SFS files into the root folder, I find 8 folders labeled SFS01.RAR through SFS08.RAR. If I look inside of those folders, I see all the files you mention but they are not out in the open, they are inside the folders. Have I farked it up already??
-
I have 2 X up_objects03.sfs, one in SFS03.rar, and one in SFS06.rar, but no up_objects02.sfs anywhere...Razoe, if you have the 02 file, can you post it?
thanks
T
-
OK, so I deleted all those folders and ran the stock game just to make sure I didn't leave anything else in there. It worked just fine. I then unpacked the SFS01.RAR-08.RAR files in the folder that I downloaded them to and then opened each one up and began copying them to my root directory. I am missing the file up_objects02.sfs and in SFS03.RAR I have up_objects01, 03, and 04. In SFS06.RAR, I find up_maps04.sfs and up_objects03.sfs. I am assuming that this should have been 02.sfs or the other one in SFS03.RAR should have been 02.sfs. So I am on hold for a bit.
-
No I don't. I looked up in Hoss' original post and the same mistake is present there. Look at SFS03 and SFS06.
-
It looks like Monty may have doubled up on that file. I believe that that is a message from him to Hoss.
-
Hmmmm I experienced non of that......................... it was all click and download, no pop-ups, no drama......................
To be quite clear, the SFS files were just as you described, the CFM files required that I type in the "Kaptcha" words prior to download, I hardly think that this "Feature" of a free hosting site is at all related to a corrupted OS install, and also, most (OK...all) of my rants are tongue-in-cheek, and are intended for entertainment purposes only...
Thanks for all your work on this, I'm really looking forward to trying it,
Cheers,
T

Well, all I can say is......HOLY FUCK!!! It's gonna take at least a year before I get to try out all the different types/eras/scenarios possible in this version!! Thank you Hoss!
The Cougar is AWESOME!! Here's some of the good, bad and ugly, just from about 2 hours of playing around with it so far.
The good - most everything!
The bad - no Level Stab for all types anymore. Oh well, it sucks being a fighter jock!
The UGLY - Fireball's premonition was right on. The Turkey's FM is totally farked....but I can live with it! :icon_biggrin:
The start sequence for the round motors will blow you away!
The game loads in about 30 seconds
The Late model Corsairs still have those same funky loadout options :sad5:
The AD has everything but the kitchen sink available
Air to air refueling is going to be fun again only with a bunch more tanker options
No SB2C :sad5: but we now have an OS2U Kingfisher and J2F Duck (amphibious)
More to follow. The installation went very well, just like the directions said. I'm diggin' it!!
OH! Did I say that the Cougar was fargging AWESOME?!! :icon_biggrin:
-
Thanks Hoss!
The file download was drama free, install was per directions.
Love the angled deck ships, love the A4 and A-1
Missing my helldiver, but there are pretty good instructions in the CFM manual to add things, and we'll need that for French Indo China!
Still pawing through it all...but thanks again!
Razor, let me know when you want to try multi-player with this beast
-
Through your gents dredge of things will there be a way to simplify the install or is it just going to be what it is??? I am going on 4.12 search today..
-
I'm pretty sure that the install is what it is. The actual install is pretty painless. The biggest headache is the downloading of all the parts. Each CFM file, all 11 of them, were over a Gig, and most of the SFS files, 8 of them, were around 600MB or so. Monty duplicated one of the up_object.sfs files but Hoss has that sorted out now. When you're set to do it Dog, I'd be glad to get on TS with you and walk you through it.
-
what Razor said, hardest part is the downloads...and I am the gold standard of stupidity.
-
Rgr that... I didn't have 412.. I had cleaned the gutters up to HSFX original... So I have downloaded the IL2 412 mega patch and I am in the process of trying to find original IL2 CD... Might need to talk to Cobraj about this... Will I need the Pacific CD as well before mega patch????
-
Don't know Dog, however there is a "no CD" patch out there somewhere. My clean install is off my own 1946 CD, which did away with the requirement for the CD to be in the computer.
I an finding a bunch of disappointing things in the course of playing around with this. I am hoping that it is just a matter of a setting, or jsgme file that I haven't enabled yet. All of Asheshouse's beautiful Korean War era carriers don't have working catapults and the WWII Essex class ships don't have the juice to launch the Cougar. I used the Valley Forge, the one with the brown wooden deck, and that works beautifully but there's no Hayrake. There is no North Korean side in the Blue countries. I am confident that these little things will get sorted out eventually. Maybe there is a requirement for a [MODS] entry in the conf.ini file?? The speedbar works great but it always defaults to KPH and when you switch to KIAS, there is (KPH) behind it. Meters is also in () behind feet. No big deal, I just find it odd.
I'll keep digging around in it and see if I can't figure some of these things out. I'm still very impressed with what I have seen so far! Hey, the bomb bay doors work!!
-
I got the SB2c back in!
-
My track IR doesn't work though...weird...it's like Track IR never recognizes the game starting.
On Edit: Got it sorted
-
I've gotten a few crashes from within the FMB and when I CTL-ALT-DEL, I got an error message saying something about Nvidia and TIR not getting along. However, my TiR does work just fine in game.
How did you manage the Beast??
-
Start making a list, and when Simon releases the final version make a post in it and tell him everything that does not work, did you look in the jsgme files for CTO?.................... you need to enable the Hi-rez skins too................ I'll take a look in the carrier.ini and see if the ships are in it............. did you try the Iowa and the Kingfisher?................. it should work........................ enable the Forgotten Countries jsgme and you will see N Korea in FMB.
the Helldivers are not part of the CFM, the endless pissing contest between SAS and Freemodders precludes Simon putting them in. But they are easy to install, you can do a jsgme and put them in or learn the basics of the #SAS folder and it's method.
Hoss

I've gotten a few crashes from within the FMB and when I CTL-ALT-DEL, I got an error message saying something about Nvidia and TIR not getting along. However, my TiR does work just fine in game.
How did you manage the Beast??
There's a tutorial on SaS, but it's actually pretty easy.
Download all the versions you want from freemodding http://freeil2modding.free-forum.net/1-vt2945.html?sid=7cf7e5e462136ff88222bcfbcb7dad3a
Unzip to the #SaS folder
In the #SAS\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects folder, you'll find the air.ini file
add the lines for each plane from their respective readmes
You'd need Hoss level of juju to make then JSGME things, but this will get them going
I wish I knew where the loadouts lived, I'd like to fix the SBD once and for all...lol
-
We can control it in the mission building ;)
-
Ted, have you noticed a different, or complete lack of the CTO?? I am importing missions from our present version, and I am finding that the same # of a/c won't fit on the same deck. Have I missed a jsgme to enable?
-
the only mission I built so far is a dogfight, with an angled deck carrier off Pensacola...so I can try all the cool new planes!
But that carrier seems to have functioning cats and cross-deck pendants...
I'll explore more today.
ON EDIT: I'll import the med one with Fulmars...see if they spawn with folded wings. If not, I'll start a list for Monty. I'll also check for hayrake in SB2C, TBD et al
T
-
Yeah, I'm working on a list also. Let's wait till Monty announces that it is officially released though, so as not to get anyone in trouble for getting us the files early.

Good Idea................. that's why yer in charge.........................
when he does release it I would re-download the CFM files again, there are some fixes in some of them already, recheck your findings and then post the results.

I can't figure out the catapult floatplanes. In FMB, I set them to launch from USS Iowa, or the I-400surf just like carrier based aircraft. I also set those ships as landing waypoints as well.
the OS2U fails to load at all, and the Sieran starts by being flung into the air, motor off, from the sea, nowhere near the sub. I can't find the documentation for mission building with these. Have you guys found it? Also, I would like the documentation for AIM9 and AGM 65 missile use. The rockets key seems to de-select them.
The OS2U works great in QMB
Having fun! Thanks again Hoss.
-
Same here Ted, no clue how to get those planes to spawn on the catapult. In QMB, I landed the Kingfisher on the water and shut the engine down. When I tried to start it up again, I got an "engine off" message every time I hit the "I" key. Curious. Loving the J2F Duck(S)! How about that start sequence for the round motors like the AD or Corsair??!! Seems like they have a random generator that determines whether or not it's going to start on the first try. That is the most realistic thing I have yet to see in IL-2 EVER!!
-
go to Aircraft/jets section and find the aircraft you are looking for and read the thread, there are manuals you can download for the Hornet/Harrier, and Mig-21. the Controls section for Mod/Act JetWar is different than the one for HSFX, it has more commands from the Hot Keys mod which is part of the Engine Mod you need for Jet War............... so look in the Controls section and do like I did and build a new profile for Jet War separate from HSFX. And after looking the Iowa cat mod is not part of the CFM, so the cats won't work.
