5700-5800 series cards: Keep in mind this best possible fps with some eye candy.

ATI CCC settings are: 4x AA (Box), Aniso is set to App pref (Use in game aniscop), Cat AI OFF, MipMap high quality, Vsynch always ON, AA mode is Super Sampling, NO Triple Buffer.

I don't have an ATI card, and I don't know about most of those settings, but "Water=0" looks pretty bad doesn't it? I'd want to trade off some other eye candy if I had to for better water. Another important one in there is the "LandGeom=3". If you've got it set to less than 3, you'll hear everyone else talking about the mountain or island right ahead of you, but you won't see it til you're practically on top of it. :)

P.S Cobraj I think you mean conf.ini instead of .mis file.

Thanks, yes it should have been conf.ini I changed it.

I will be posting nVidia stuff when I get home tonight. VisibilityDistance=3  and LandGeom=3  are the big ones you are correct.

ATI water choices are 0,1,2,3 the 0 and 1 do look like crap but 2, and 3 take a big hit on framerates on an open water map like this and would affect ships and planes rendering at a distance. ATI is one PITA running inOpenGL and these settings are a great start point.

You should be good with this setting too. Copy and save your old one first, then modify.

Thanks Cobraj.  I havn't had a chance to check yet but I believe this is what is causing my issues.  With a start-from-scratch install I was getting excellent performance with the highest settings.   The downloaded version creates a black enviroment with the highest seeting.  I thought it could be this but didn't know what to tweek.
