Hey all.
so tonight I tried some single-player missions... and technical issues caused them to FAIL epically. I'm hoping everyone can offer some advice.
Ok, first off, let me give you the stats of my laptop -
PROCESSOR: AMD - E-350 1.60ghz processor (little thing)
RAM: 3gb DDR5 - 2.6 free
Graphics Card: ATI-AMD Radeon HD 6310 1GB graphics cache
OS: Windows7 Home Premium
all user account BS is turned off, and I am an administrator
as a whole, it seems only my processor is lacking really... ish. I mean this is an old game.
okay... I know very little about computers, I've only been studying up on them for about 6 months now (ever since the IL-2SNAFU with my Girl's laptop )
however, I "get" how they can work for people who "get" them. For example, you give me a MOPAR small block, at idle, I can get pretty damn close to it's cam specs just listening to her. I understand that for some, computers are much the same way.
here's what I've got, and what I've done:
343 GB free of 450 GB standard hard drive (none of that pretty SSD :sad5:)
most of that, is pretty much IL-2 and IL-2 related. My skins, templates, etc. For example, my "Wildcat" template for GIMP is 18,000kb. And I have those for all our planes. Let alone HD reference pics that take up a pretty penny themselves, about 15GB worth (no joke).
but for the most part, it's a nice, relatively un-added laptop that cost me all of $400 back in 2011  so, needless to say, I'm not complaining... if my desktop I'm building does this, I'm gonna be pissed lol.
so here's what's going on:
I have 5 versions of IL-2 on my computer, and here are their names/directories -
C:\IL-2BACKUP - this is a 4.09m version of the game, untouched
C:\IL-2MODDED - this is a slightly modded version of the 4.09m game, just basic planes add-ons. About 15 all told. USN/USMC centric with some P-40s thrown in for good measure
C:\IL-2UPDATED - this is my 4.12.2m version of the game, untouched
C:\HSFXAG51 - this is my main game - it's the full updated version of the game we use online (I think).
C:\HSFX_7_0_1Backup - this is a full updated version of the game we use online (I think). Basically, I accidentally made two of them when I was originally doing this. So now this is a backup.
My "Backup," "Modded," and "Updated" came from a IL-2:1946 4.08m DVD. The other two came from here.
now, my problem: something "hinky" is going on with the single mission and net missions in my AG51 version of the game.
great example - Straight From the Farm has a mission in its campaign, where the Dauntless takes off from the "Carrier" to climb to altitude, attack a ship off the coast, and return home. Zeus_Cat added some TBF Avengers to the runway to "move up" the Dauntless, all with no fuel, just "place holders" if you will.
problem - somehow I end up piloting the TBF Avenger in the very back of the "flight line" lol. Yep. Tried this both in single mission "practice" and in the campaign. No bueno.
another great example - Razor's Carrier Ops - the carrier doesn't exist. His videos show a Hellcat or Avenger taking off and doing touch and goes on nothing. They just hover above the ocean. When I try to fly the missions, yep - my plane ends up in the water.
one last example - "White Sun Blue Sky" - second mission in the campaign - I'm flying the flying boat, instead of the 'Hawk.
now, so far, I've been okay with online play. I was in that biplane during that Korea mission, and tonight went fine too. Also frame rate seems great, even though I have everything on as high as it goes. Carrier launches, landings, etc, no "rubber banding" or "lag." It's just these "single missions" and "campaigns" that seem hinky. WSBS also lagged like crazy, but I figured that was normal considering how many objects he put in the maps. I turned down the graphics, and it smoothed out just fine.
is there something I'm missing?
Here's what I've done -
AG51's ATI "optimizer" within the config.ini file - did that at Animal's thought and behest, and yep. It runs way nicer now.
nothing else, no updates to the drivers or anything. Recently Windows 7 decided to "update" and ever since my laptop has been a bit slow at start, but other than that it's fine. Basically any time I "open" something, I get a lag I didn't used to get.
here's what I do know
basically, with all the little SNAFU going on in the HSFX version, I loaded up SFTF and WSBS into my 4.12.2m unmodded version and they run like butter, no glitches or weird "pilot placement." Also, because of the lack of extras, it loads up to the main screen in about 25 seconds flat. HSFXAG51 takes about 90 seconds or so. I'd be fine with 4.12.2m unmodded to be honest, for my single-player experience, except the flight model is different a bit, the sounds are crap, and most importantly -
the SBD-3 Dauntless... I can't view through the dive bombing scope! :angry3:
Yeah, there goes Zeus_Cat's other awesome SBD missions then lol. :BangHead:
whereas in the HSFX version? Yep. I can see through the sight just fine lol cept it doesn't seem to put me in the proper planes.
so... yeah. I'm completely lost, and I needs help.
so did not plan on this being a dissertation... sorry about that guys. I just want to be clear as to what's going on.
-
Sounds like the game got corrupted. The missions are easy enough to fix, if you zip them and attach it here, I'll do that today.
HSFX, and by extension , the AG51 standard pack, brings A WHOLE FREAKING BUNCH of stuff to the game, some of which are "Deal Breakers" for me:
TBD
TBF
Helldiver
F9F
Skyraider
Yorktown, Enterprise, Hornet {What's a Pacific game without Enterprise? I mean....really)
Swordfish
the CVL's
it goes on...none of these are in the Soviet "Party approved" version...
It might be worth deleting your current AG51 version, copying the backup over, and re-patching when you have the time.
-
Sounds like the game got corrupted...
It might be worth deleting your current AG51 version, copying the backup over, and re-patching when you have the time.
:angry3: yeah... I was thinking that too.
 sounds good bud.
yeah, the good news is, the backup HSFX is fully updated too. At least I think it is. So, in theory, I has a backup that should be easy to do.
Beyond that, I still have the original missions in their expanded and zipped folders saved on my computer in my Images/IL2/Missions folder . "P" for Plenty, and "backups for my backups." Rule #1 of Murphy's Law lol
... :angry3: ... just means I gotta start removing, cleaning, defragging, and then copying... AGAIN lol :angry3: :sad5: :tongue3:
but yeah, I'm with you. Now with the HSFXAG-51 mods... I can't be without em.
You serious the original game didn't have the Enterprise?!?! Umm... wow. I can't believe they had a pair large enough to make a "Pacific Campaign" "flightsim" without her... although there are others out there as well... ever heard of "Damage Inc" ? Yeah... the demo of that game (pulling 10+g's and boom-zooming to 700kts) is what brought me here to begin with... let alone "IL-2: Birds of Steel" - talk about a sell-out... :sad8:
oh well, brought me here right! ... and the joys of freaking computers... :angry3: :undecided:
*update 1711PST*
yeah... I'm reinstalling to my C:\ again. I ended up not having a saved compressed version of AG-51's game. So... I had to redownload it, now I'm saving that lol. Here's hoping I get it all updated properly.
*update 1746PST*
I was "smart" lol and somehow deleted the PM CobraJ gave me on a window-licking version of how to update everything lol. Now I'm lost. I got the HSFX7 back in my C-drive... now I have no idea what to update first, or which order lol :tongue3:
I'm pretty sure I do these in this order:
HSFX 7.02 update
http://airgroup51.net/forum/index.php?topic=2563.0
AG-51_Standard_7_0_2_version_1 All-inclusive! +++
http://airgroup51.net/forum/index.php?topic=2578.0
then AG-51_Standard_7_0_2_version_1_Update_2
http://airgroup51.net/forum/index.php?topic=2618.0
I'm just trying to remember where to put the AG-51 stuff! lol :tongue3:
*update1840PST*
yeah...
um...
no...
so, I updated my HSFX to the 7.02, followed to the letter as the forum states. Set up the updater.ini, and it happened again - "please insert original copy of IL-2:1946 DVD in your drive"
so, now I'm deleting, again and starting over...
-
Hey all, I just want to say thanks for all the help and support with my configuration/installation/etc etc etc SNAFUs
luckily, I think I only have one left! :undecided:
umm... in my controls section, there isn't an option to open up bomb doors? kinda hard to enjoy a Turkey or Sonofababy2ndclass without those lol.
-
take a break, take your time, and we'll start over.
You've had it running, so we know it works...
Don't get frustrated...I promise not to host anything good until you're up and running
-
Bomb Doors are in Key Assignments. Default is a 1 number key I think across the top of letters. Whatever is set to "Power 10".
Make sure in conf.ini at the very bottom in [Mods] section it doesn't say BombBayDoors=0 this disables BombBayDoors.
-
Thanks Skipper, I found it
My conf.ini file doesn't have that disabler in the mods section, so in theory everything should be a-ok now. I'm going to attach my conf.ini file to here, along with my users ones for whomever to browse and let me know if it's okay or not. I've got them saved as backups now in my "IL2" pictures folder too. Basically, worst case happens again, all I gotta do is unzip, install, update, and copy and replace
I've kinda gotten a handle on that now too  lol but in theory, I'm all squared away now. Animal helped me out quite a bit with how to switch JGSME mods, to be honest, didn't really understand that before. Now I just switch 'em, and the game pretends to be stock, and the campaigns are smooth sailing now. Between that, and my not understanding what the "please insert your original IL-2:1946 cd/dvd" meant... yeah :sad5: I think this whole SNAFU was completely user-related. :cheesy:
at least now, thanks to Skipper, I have my laptop "optimized" or whatsitcalled
this is going to be my last post for a bit. We are heading back to Havasu for the weekend off, it'll be fun, but zero reliable internet. Everyone have a Happy Easter and I'll see y'all on Thursday! :icon_salut:
-
well.
good news - my harddrive is ordered.
it's not here yet though. So, looks like the quickest I'll be able to fly is Tuesday :sad5:
-
Looking forward to having you back Badger...rock on dude... :headbang:
-
update
Robert has my Hard-drive and is installing it. I'll hopefully have it up and running tomorrow. I don't think I'll make flying tomorrow, but I should, should make Saturday
other good news - Robert thinks he can make Tuesday nights. Tomorrow while we're getting my laptop squared away I'll show him "the ropes" with here. He has no stick, right now, but has a X52Pro on order
-
Both good news! Hope to catch you in the skies soon!
-
well...
I'm back on my laptop!
I got everything downloaded and it all seems fine. However, yeah... my framerate in-game even in my "stock 4.07m" version is wicked, wicked slow. The game loads just fine, doesn't CTD either... then... LAG. It's brutal. I can't even get my mouse to move well, and the "stock" game doesn't even show the intro video well. Super slow framerate.
:sad5:
SNAFU  SNAFU
*update*
yeah... right now, in my device manager, it's not even saying I have my ATI Radeon Graphics Card... it just says
"Standard VGA graphics adapter"
... looks like my system isn't done getting "updated" or having "drivers" installed? Basically the computer doesn't know it has the graphics card installed I take it?
-
Are all your drivers for graphics up to date? If your using fraps to determine fps turn that off as well to see if it smooths out a bit. I have a bang up system and on certain missions I get lag due to the sheer volume of aircraft involved.
Edited looks like youre checking those.
-
Thanks Jarhead
yep. It was the driver. It wasn't even installed. Luckily, I got buddies that were on Facebook and helped me out getting me the right thingy to install.
Scary part though... I was able to diagnose and troubleshoot it myself! Yeah... I'm quite amazed at that.
all's running smoothly now. Time to bring back up my user files and conf.ini back to snuff and I'll be gtg...
for now lol
-
Good to hear! See ya up there soon enough!
-
Did you install Windows from a recovery disk? From Toshiba?
-
no :cheesy: it was a Vista recovery disc that came with my laptop. We installed a Windows 7 32bit Ultimate instead.
the good news - I'm flying! "GrumpyBadger" is in Hyperlobby, and everything seems to be working just fine now. The graphics card needed its driver, we did that, and got it all updated. Then I went into the conf.ini file and replaced it with the one that I had saved on my google-drive. Everything works great now.
now that's my next question - all my "settings." My difficulty settings, my controls, joystick, etc. That's all in that "user" folder correct? I want to save that to my google-drive too, that way, when the worst happens lol, I'll have it all saved.
funny thing though, after all this, I've gotten pretty proficient at getting everything squared away.
FileZilla stuff from here
"Windows Firewall/Defender" settings
working the JGSME
installing TS and Hyperlobby
getting all my internet stuff back
GIMP
etc
bout the only thing that didn't go gravy in the long run, was getting my brushes I have saved on my CINC-Badger's laptop. For some reason my google-drive didn't save those, it just shows these empty folders :sad5: no worries though, I have a USB-stick thingy lol
-
yes, always save your User file and conf.ini file................. will save you heartache at a later date..................
Hoss
-
You should go to Toshiba and download the motherboard, and other drivers and sound drivers. Windows likely loaded default drivers which won't work as well and make it slower.
-
Copy that CobraJ  thanks Skipper!
I'll let Robert know and see if he did that yet or not
-
yeah... it's fucking FUBAR in a glitchy WTF sort of way.
not only is it causing my mouse and selection issues, but the game is super lagged now online on the Pusan dogfight mission. FPS was 20... at lowest graphics settings. Jarhead and I tried to fly, and it just wasn't happening.
now last night, we were flying that Hawaii one that I shared on the video I was flying solo. That map, I was cruising at 70FPS with graphics 10x what I had to adjust them to for that Pusan map. So I think it's more my system limits because of objects than anything. "White Sun Blue Sky" definitely has issues every now and then, but I've never dipped below 40fps on it, but then again, that's a single player campaign.
I'm saving my conf.ini and user.ini here as an attachment. "P" for Plenty so I have it.
but yeah. My mouse and therefore "selection" is all screwey. I was in FMB, trying to make a little dogfight map, just like Razor's, just the F9F and USS Boxer off Kaneohe.
when I went to type in the "description" ... trying to use "F" for "F9F Panther CarrierQuals" yeah... it opened up the "file" instead, like I had "alt" pressed or something.
anyone have any ideas? I'm going to look into those system and motherboard drivers on Toshiba, definitely. Wish me luck.
If I can get this, it'll be good for everyone. I'll make it 20 planes or something available.
-
well, :cheesy: my laptop is officially croaked now.
Honestly, that laptop has been a pain since the day I bought it 3 years ago. Today, flying on the war-birds.com server, things got weird. So I exited out, and tried flying a single-player campaign - "Through the Mist." I was still having the issues with the "select left engine" would for some reason cause the right engine to start... then I got the blue screen. :angry3: :sad5: After I re-booted it, and had to go through the start-up manually, the HDD and graphics cards were shot.
So yeah. The laptop didn't make it. I decided to see how well it would fly in real life.
I'm on my lady's laptop now. It won't work IL2 at all, but I'll see if it'll work TeamSpeak so I can at least hang out with you guys.
good news -
GoogleDrive has my templates, my missions, my conf.ini, and user folder. So once I get the desktop I'll be flying again shortly.
but right now, I can only reliably use GIMP for sure. Like I said, I'll give TS a shot.
these FUBARs are getting old. I put too much time in a crappy laptop already. Like you said bud, what was going on with that thing wasn't SOP. So I'm just going to wait until I can get that desktop ordered and built that Cobra and my buddies helped me design and build. It has an 8 core processor, GTX770, and 16GB RAM with a 240GB SSD, on top of a 2TB standard. All I gotta do is sell my truck, which I don't use anyway, and I'll have plenty of cash for the PC, and a nice little baja bug  I can work on.
word of caution - NEVER buy a Toshiba! lol their support site is crap, and no matter how good people are with computers, that thing would stump em. Robert is one of the best, let alone Shawn and Andrew.
so I'm going to be OOC from flying for a bit. Hopefully I'll get that desktop here and ready by the end of the month. I want to try and make that DBS Coral Sea campaign still.
and the other good news, this laptop works GIMP alright. I can still work on the templates and skins no problem. Heck, this one has all the custom brushes and stuff in it that was preventing me the last week from working on them in that crappy Toshiba POS. I'll just need "guinea pigs" to fly my skins so I can see what they look like in-game to adjust things.
good news on that, A&APW has two guys that have been really supportive already, SloppyJoe of course, and another Maty12. If any of you wouldn't mind trying out my skins too, that'd be great.
-
Sad to hear Badger! Was looking forward to flying more with you. Hopefully you'll get that desktop build up&running soon, and there'll be no more trouble (heck, with a build like that there won't be trouble with any game for a while)! I was thinking of getting a similar build - do you mind if I ask how much you're gonna pay for it? Without peripherals, mine was clocking at around $1000.
-
Lets go work on airplanes badger!
-
dude, Jarhead, I'm so IN if I could. Unfortunately CinC Badger has an interesting work schedule. But dude, with enough notice. You bet.
beyond that, if ya can ever make it out here, Mesa would be sweet too, we have the B-25 and B-17 . but yeah, that's actually where I spend most my time.
here are the forums bud!
http://www.ww2aircraft.net/forum/
http://www.warbirdinformationexchange.org/
beyond all that, the desktop will cost me about $1500, with screen, keyboard, etc. Haven't ironed out the details on the GPU, but yeah. I saw a GTX770 with 4GB cache for a bit extra, something like $300 vs $200. So I'm debating using that one instead. PM me your e-mail or hit me up on facebook with it and I'll send you my wishlist for the build.
it's via either newegg.com or tigerdirect.com
-
The only 770 GPUs I've found are above $300, even the 2gb version that I am thinking of getting, since I'm planning on using at most 1920x1080 (and I hear more memory is useless for that)! I'd love to get the details! I'll PM you!
And yeah, screens are expensive. I'll probably use an old TV I've got here... low resolution, but hey, whatever!
-
sent you the e-mail Anvil
$309 4gb cache GTX 760 -my bad, it's a 760, not a 770-
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8466655&CatId=7387
my buddy John, who thinks it's hilarious I'm even remotely trying to learn about computers, found me an all-inclusive with OS, monitor, blu-ray/dvd-r drive, etc etc, all for about $1200. All I've done since then is shop around, and "for a few $$ more, I can have this" type of upgrades. I think my whole system will be about $1500.
I'm actually really looking forward to this. I can buy all my other goodies too, that I need to fly proper. I'm going to get a dry erase board, that I'll tape the hayrake compass on and such. Climb charts for SBDs, TBF/Ms, F9Fs, PBJs. All the documents that are found right here, I'll have laminated and ready. Little things like that, I can have squared away by the time my PC gets built and I'm ready to fly again. I'm basically treating this like "ground school."
... and I want to cry! :cheesy: :sad5: I found a beautiful drawing tablet... it will show the drawing on it, as well as the computer screen! Sucker would be amazing for skins... yeah. OUCH. lol
-
What happened to the Newegg I setup for you. It had everything listed for $1300 wasn't it?
EVGA SuperClocked 02G-P4-2765-KR GeForce GTX 760 2GB EVGA ACX Cooler Video Card is $259. Which Razor has now.
I can do a design for $1000 too but you would have a little less. With your monitor in the price midrange Gamer is where we are at. Don't mix and match either!! The stuff I quoted you works well and works well together. It is not just pick what parts you want it has to be made to work with every component you want to use. Your friends answers are a little off. It takes awhile to research parts so make your choice of who's list to buy from wisely. I would hate to see you build a big paperweight.
-
I told you about the all inclusive PC junk out there. And your listening to him again? Hmm...
-
I told you about the all inclusive PC junk out there. And your listening to him again? Hmm...
oh... this is one of those thingies?!? Sorry Skipper. I just trust John alot. But what exactly is wrong with it then?
and Skipper - no worries bud, I have your build saved. and I'm all for doing this research way before making the equivalent of a PC "trailer queen."
can you help explain why I should go with your i5 build and the GPU you selected? Basically, that way I can also share that opinion with the others and such.
none of this is remotely written in stone yet. And as of right now, the "budget" for the PC went up a bit. $1500 or thereabouts, with room if there's a good reason. Basically, I found a Baja Bug for sale, in the exact year range and condition I want, all for $800 engine included lol... so now there's plenty more budget space for the desktop! My truck I'm selling is worth $5,000 - $9,000ish depending on who you talk to lol.
-
I have explained it. But in a nutshell 8 or 6 cores does mean anything to you because computers speed is dictated by ghz. Nothing built or software out now utilizes mega multi-core CPU's. you don't want a 2.6ghz 8 core to game. You need a 3.5ghz quad at most. The i5 I quoted is perfect for you. Buy a box computer and you are wasting your money and getting half the performance.
I've built a hundred gaming machines in my life. Understanding what is needed and what is not is key. I have designed and or built 10 or machines in this squad too. I do know what I'm talking about and don't want to here you say, "I should have bought that one Cobraj".
-
I thought that AMD was a 5.0 ghz per processor, not 2.6?
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8324286&CatId=1946
I also totally understand that Il-2 runs a single core, so yeah. Hence why I'm searching for the best ghz for buck
I've found some reviews too, namely I like this one:
http://www.extremetech.com/computing/170023-amd-vs-intel-the-ultimate-gaming-showdown-5ghz-fx-9590-vs-i7-4960x
since I have a bit better budget, I figured if I go intel, than an i7 wouldn't be a bad option. From what I'm gathering though back here, is Robert, John, and Shawn are biased towards AMD. My other computer buddy, Ian, is biased towards all Intel and nVidia. However, luckily they all like nVidia no matter what. And honestly, after what you and I went through together, I'm only going nVidia myself! That and everyone here has one, so it'll be easy to "tune" for IL-2.
John and Robert said the 8-core 5ghz would be good so I could have multiple tabs open in my research (I've caught myself opening over 15 tabs at once ), all while listening to youtube, checking my pinterest (where the tabs come from), and working on a skin in Gimp lol :cheesy:
good news too:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8037048&Sku=I69-4770K
The i7-4770K Processor, which some say runs better than the AMD-FX is right in the same price-point @ $319.00 after rebate. Basically, at this point, I'm not scared to pay over $600 for a wicked good CPU and GPU, which in that, do I though?
or does your build, for how much less, still run everything how I want it  I'm so confused. I feel like those guys that buy an old hotrod on ebay and take it into the shop and accidentially come out with a car they can't drive because they're scared of it, because of the paint, turbos, nitrous, and everything else. I want a driver, a mean one, but reliable too. No mistake.
and by that as a whole,
I've built a hundred gaming machines in my life. Understanding what is needed and what is not is key. I have designed and or built 10 or machines in this squad too. I do know what I'm talking about and don't want to here you say, "I should have bought that one Cobraj".
Fair enough Skipper :icon_salut: hence why I'm sharing what I'm finding bud.
-
AMD and nVidia do not work together. They can be seen together and configured together but it won't work well.
-
AMD and nVidia do not work together. They can be seen together and configured together but it won't work well.
That's what I thought too, even before you told me that here, and back on TS.
Copy that :icon_salut:
now, I've heard the comparable intel processor to the that AMD is the i7 - 4770k. My budget has been increased. Is that something I should look into, or is it honestly way too much for what I want to do?
beyond that,
Jarhead -
(http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/f5/4b/a4/f54ba4d4a0dcce3c29166828e98c59fa.jpg)
definitely count me in for October 4th, and November 1st  Honestly, there's more I'd love to make, June 7th, Sept 6th, Dec 6th... but yeah. Definitely count me in for those two for sure. Here's hoping selfishly you're able to make it. If yer already busy by then, that's awesome for ya, but dammnit murphy's law strikes again for me!
nah, maybe I can make the one next month... maybe
and another resource I was lead to, thought you'd enjoy too
http://www.warbirdrescue.com/
-
Will definitely see what I can do, I'd love to give tours of the CV6 Enterprise Hanger...and help restore Picadilly Lilly II....and of course fly any of the navy birds too
-
helping restore "Picadilly Lilly II" would be EPIC
