This is Jack Erickson's P-38. It was returning from Chino to Tillamook and had a hydraulic leak develop along the way. No small coincidence that the pilot, Brent Conners, lives here in Medford :icon_biggrin:
She's a beautiful machine, and BIG too!!

What a sweet ride. Is that a J or L model.. almost even looks earlier??

I'm not sure. I think it is a relatively late model. The dive brakes are not installed though. I got a chance to sit in it when it was being restored many years ago and I'm pretty sure that the term, "ergonomics" had not yet been coined. What a complicated aircraft! I can't imagine flying that into combat with only a few hundred hours under my belt! :tongue3:

That is awesome Razor. I don't think I ever saw one of those up close and personal but it sure does look big and heavy!

That's cool!
I would guess it's a J, earlier than a J-15 since you can't see the bumps for the fuel pumps on the underwing surfaces...but I'm probably wrong.
If it's there there should be a data block under the leading edge on the left side.
